Codes for IT tenders

IT tenders mostly use codes from these three divisions. Each of their codes has its own page with both labels, its place in the hierarchy and related codes.

What CPV codes are

The Common Procurement Vocabulary (CPV) is the EU's standard classification for public procurement. Buyers use it to describe what a contract is about, so suppliers can find tenders by subject whatever the language of the notice. It is based on Regulation (EC) No 2195/2002; the current version is CPV 2008, in the version of Regulation (EC) No 213/2008.

Public buyers in Germany and Austria give CPV codes in their notices, and so do buyers in Switzerland. A tender usually names one main code and can add more.

This directory lists the 9,454 codes of the main vocabulary. The supplementary vocabulary, which adds attributes such as material or purpose, is not included.

How a code is built

Eight digits and a check digit after the hyphen. Each further digit narrows the subject; zeros at the end mean the level is not used.
